Genoa

Cradled between land and sea and with a working port, the Italian vacation destination of Genoa on the west coast of Italy displays its past through her many palaces and the surrounding ancient terraced hills.

PORTOFINO - 4 hours
This is a tour rich in scenery and a chance to enjoy this lush section of the Italian Riviera. The tour begins with a with a 45-minute coach ride to Santa Margherita Ligure before a 10-minute ride to Portofino. Here we will have plenty of leasure time to explore this delightdul seaside town, to take pictures or relax in the cafés. We will continue by boat to Santa Margherita, from where we will return to Genoa and to the ship.

Marseille

France's second largest city and the capital of the Provence- Côte d'Azur region, the cosmopolitan city of Marseille lies on the southeast coast of France.

AIX-EN-PROVENCE - 4 hours
We will leave Marseille port for a 40-minute drive to the lovely town of Aix-en-Provence. The excursion starts with a visit to the famous XII century St. Saviours Cathedral and gardens. The Cathedral was built on the site of a Roman Temple and dates from a period that spans the XI and XIII centuries. Fronted by a richly decorated Gothic-style portal with elaborately carved doors, the Catedral is flanked on the north by an unfinished tower. Enjoy a pleasant walk ( 1,5 hours ) through the historic town centre before reaching the famous Mazarino Quarter, a residential district created by Cardinal Mazarins brother in the last half for the gentry of Aix en Provence. AVIGNON AND MARSEILLES - full day, lunch not included
Our starting point for this day-long tour begins in Marseilles ; we will leave the port and reach the Cathedral of Notre Dame de la Garde. This Neo-Byzantine church stands on the top of a hill and was designed by the architect Esperandiu between 1853 and 1864. The site was formerly a XIII century chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Guard and features several votive offerings from safely returned sailors. Stop for an inside visit before continuing to the medieval city of Avignon. Here we will visit the Palace of the Popes, an ancient fortress rich in galleries and chapels. The frescoes and hand-painted tapestries in the Popes bedrooms and private rooms bear witness to the former opulence of this residence. A boat transfer will take you to the island of Château dIf for a guided visit of this fortified prison built between 1524-28 and which became a state prison in the XVII century. The popular XIX century French author, Alexandre Dumas, brought literary fame to the castle as he used it as a setting for his adventure novel, the Count of Monte Cristo. Barcelona

Barcelona is Spain's second-largest city and the capital of the Catalonia region.

Visit of the spectacular Cathedral built in 1298 by James II in the medieval Barrio Gotico. Drive to the famous Sagrada Familia and the Casa Batló (external visit). Time for a stroll through the Poble Espanyol, the Spanish village, a watercolour painting which portrays the different people and cultures of Spain. Brief stop at Montjuich Hill, where we will enjoy a wonderful view over the city from the Belvedere del Alcade before returning to the ship. PANORAMIC TOUR & SHOPPING - 3,5 hours
From the ship, we drive through Barcelona's main streets and squares. Short stop at Montjuich Hill to enjoy the view over the city before moving on for a stop at the Sagrada Familia (external visit), Gaudis impressive and unfinished cathedral built in Neo-gothic style. We will admire the Cathedral from outside and then take a stop at Plaza Cataluña for shopping.

Enjoy a lovely excursion to admire some of the main sites of Barcelona. Stop to take some pictures before reaching the Pueblo Español, a unique reproduction of some of Spain prettiest villages. La Valletta

La Valletta is a city situated on the island of Malta, which lies 60 miles south of Sicily.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, here you'll find 7000 years of history living passionately in the present.

VALLETTA AND MDINA - 4 hours

Visit the Barraka gardens with their wonderful panoramic view over the Great Harbour before moving on to the lovely St. Johns Cathedral which dates back to the ancient Knights of Malta and is rich in treasures, including the masterpieces by Caravaggio. On to Mdina, known as the silent town and which is dominated by the Baroque style St. Pauls Cathedral. We will visit St. Pauls before walking the narrow streets of this medieval city. Return to the ship.

Visit of the silent town of Mdina, walking the medieval streets and admiring the city's old bastion. We will  continue to Rabat and stop at a handicraft centre to purchase souvenirs. The last stop of the tour is Mosta where we will visit the Cathedral distinguished by its splendid dome : an architectural feat and the third largest unsupported dome in the world.

This excursion takes you on a guided tour around the north of the island. You will stop at the Red Tower in Ghadira Bay, Mellieha, from where you can admire the view out of Gozo and Comino. Drive through the countryside and travel off road to Golden Sands Bay. Continue through various villages, stopping en route for photos at Dingli Cliffs and the Blue Grotto. Return to the ship.

DOLPHIN EXPERIENCE - 4 hours

Travelling with children ? Look no further than our dolphin day. Leave the pier heading for the Marine Park where we will have a short talk on dolphin behaviours and learn how to interact with these gentle mammals. We will then proceed to the dolphin pool where you will meet and play with trained bottlenose dolphins for about 20 minutes. Free time in the Marine Park before returning to the vessel.

Messina

is a pleasant town located to the northeast of the island of Sicily.

TAORMINA - 4 hours

After leaving the port, a bus transfer will take you to Taormina, one of the jewels of Sicily. A pleasant walk takes you to the renowned ancient Graeco-Roman theatre, first built by the Greeks before being re-built by the Romans. Enjoy the wonderful view before continuing to Corvaia Palace ( external visit ); an historic XV century building that formerly housed the Sicilian Parliament. We will also admire the small Roman theatre or Odeon (extrernal visit) and the St. Nicholas Cathedral. Free time for shopping.

We will leave Messina and head to Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe, passing through Nicolosi, a town situated on the volcanos southern flank. Once at the Rifugio Sapienza, we will visit the Silvestri craters.

Messina was founded in 730 B.C. by the Greek ; the city was systematically destroyed by earthquakes. Our tour will depart by bus from the port to reach Ganzirri, a small fishing village situated near the Pantano Grande and Pantano Piccolo lakes. We will continue to Capo Peloro, the nearest point to the coast of Calabria. Enjoy a panoramic tour of Messina, admiring Piazza Cairoli, the Court House, the University and the Cristo Re Church that dominates the harbour and the strait. We will stop for photos before continuing our tour past San Francesco Church, the Government Hall, the Fountain of Neptune and the main street, Viale della Libertá. Visit the Cathedral and the Cathedral Treasure to admire the famous Golden Mantle (Manta dOro), a special cloth that covers the picture of the Madonna and Child and which is studded with precious stones.

The port city of Civitavecchia lies about an hour from Italy's capital and is where your MSC luxury cruise liner will dock before taking lucky holiday-makers to the city of Rome.

Experiment a new way to explore the eternal city. Leaving the port by Rome Express, a private train, you will reach San Peters Station in the Vatican State after about 1 hour. You will reach the Coliseum by bus for a visit to the imposing amphitheatre that has a capacity of up to 50.000 persons and that was used for the purpose of viewing the cruel fights among the gladiators. You will then continue by foot towards the Basilica of Saint Clemente, a church built in 385. You will visit the underground archaeological area. After lunch in a typical Italian restaurant your tour will continue to St. Peters Square and St. Peters Basilica ; here you will have free time at disposal to stroll around or to visit to the Basilica indipendently after receiving information from the guide outside the site.
